Life Drawing

These are some examples of my life drawings session i have done this year, i selected some of the few i liked to upload rather than uploading them all and spamming my blog.

I have really enjoyed the life drawing sessions and i do feel like they have help to improve my drawings skills, and i am sad to hear that we will not be getting them again next year.

Maybe i will try and find another session somewhere else which i can join to carry on learning or just see if i can join next years 1st years in there sessions.

VD 2 Paint over Techniques

For today's session we were learn how to grab any picture from the internet and use it as a texture over the top of a model.

Is a fairly simple method where you paste an image on to a overlay layer so it gives the model so depth.

We were given this small turret to create some textures for and make look good. Then later we were given the task of putting our own textures we could find on this vampire model to make it look cool.
I was surprised with of simple this technique was and how much it improve the over compassion of all of my drawings.

VD 2 Animating Sprites

After our pixel art session we were given the task of editing a group of pictures to make our own version of it and create a animation of to put into a GIF.
This was a lot easier than i thought it was going to be but still very cool! I have never know how to make GIF animations in Photoshop and despite how small might seem i think i am going to use it again in some later projects.

For example when i do a simple image for a project ill make a little GIF of it to show movement for the character.

With the editing of the girl i made her into the idea of a 'Hipster' girl who is out for a run in her running shorts.

Computer Games Spring Submission Post

This is a post to show an overview of how i went through our gaming assessment.
Its starts with some research into low poly arts which our game is going to based on.
I then started to make so models for our game like the mountains, clouds, mostly environmental objects but i also made the final ship model for our game.

I was mainly placed into the coding role for the game which fitted me fine as its one of the main things i want to proceed with in this course, i feel like this project has  gone really well and i'm glad i was put on the coding side.

I'm future i would want to make some more effects for the game and put some more finesse into the game, but in conclusion i'm happy with the way it came out and look forward to the review of the game.

VD 2 Pixel Robot

Following our pixel art session we were given the task to design our own retro robot in the same style.

I starting looking for some example of real old robots and how they were made, where there joints connected and how they moved.
After I got a grasp on how they were made I wanted to see what other unconventional retro robots there were out there.

I wanted to create a mixture of the old types with with no ideas which couldn't have been made with the old hinges and joints.

The drawing itself came out really well, using the pixel style has come quite naturally cause I like this to be perfect and the pixel at a time has seem to a rung true to me I will look to keep using this technique in some of my later projects.

3D 2 Model Kid Assessment

Now on to our Final 3D assessment.

We were given the task of modeling uv'ing and texture a kid to make him the same as the sample images given.
He had to be below 8000s tris so he was still a low poly model.

I began from the feet and started to work upwards slowly extruding and moving the vertices to match the images.

Once i created the basic shape for so body i move on to creating his head, which is where the problems began for me i really struggled to get his head to be looking more organic rather than some block.

However it got to a reasonable standard in the end but do wish i had done a better job, after i had finished the model it was on to cutting the uvs for texturing, this went okay and i got some good uvs out but i couple messed up like his right foot cause  of hidden vertices and his eyes for the face for some reason when paint the eyes on to the uvs in Photoshop the came out really weird and im not sure why.

Even tho i know this model could be a lot better i am still pleased with it cause i have matched all the assessment marks just not to the best standard. I have been struggling with the latest projects for our 3d cause its all gone a bit quick for me but i am going to try and make some more models of organic creatures to practice the whole process over the summer.

3D 2 Assets for Game Project Ship

I started to do some first designs for hour game projects main ship model. So far it is looking good and the all the simple shapes are working well.
For future models I think we might have to change the balloon size cause it obstructs the view of the actual ship.

3D 2 Dino Uv And Texturing

Our new project for this term is to create our very own dinosaur!

We started the project with just a simple polygon square has a mirror copy if it.

We finished the body model in the first model then we needed to make the legs and arms at home, this was harder than i thought it was going to be. When you extrude the legs and arms then become very square and it took me awhile to make everything rounded and stop looking a like a mine craft model.

This was the last part of our dino modelling adventure, we mapped out and created the uvs on him so we could choose to paint him a texture on photo shop or bring him in to mud box.

Since we had just had a lesson on mud box i deiced to try and give that a go and i was pleased with the way it came out.I started with just a adding a simple green colour to our dino, then slowly adding darker shades then final add a scaly texture of the top to give a realistic feel to him.
I am really happy with the final result, i looks great and it feels so good to make a model from start to finish cause you know you did every step, i just hope i can be able to replicate this for our later projects.

3D 2 Assets for Game Project: Enemy

As we have now finished our game loop we are looking in to making all of the assets for the game so it can look pretty !

Here is one of the finished models for our enemy's, we wanted to make this image of dark creatures from another realm bursting through the walls of the game universe, during the conception, we got a style of other worldly creatures from the darkest parts of the ocean in the abyss.
The model itself is finished, I have just sent it off to matt to have in textured with his slimy feel, then ready to put into the game. Should be look great soon !

VD 2 SteamPunk

For our two assignment we were told to make our steam punk based design of anything, so it could be a landscape, character or just a application.
When you going look in to the ideas for steam punk there is a huge range of things you could be looking at so i narrowed my search down to i ideas of a lonely character or robot then design his items after that.
I researched into different examples of what other artist had done for i idea of adventures and robots in steam punk.

After i had got a grasp on the overall style and elements which are common in steam punk i went on to start making some sketches for the project.
I made this two made characters, one being an adventures handy robot and the other being a nomadic robot who travel around and using his medical skills to help people.

I then went to sketch some smaller items which could go with the to of the characters, the made which came out of this was the Infinite box which the doc bot carried around to keep all his lotions and potions in.

With all the sketches done and being happy with all the designs, I went in to photoshop to give him some colour and form. He is supposed to me made out brass and copper with amour plating all of him but he has over time started to rust away.

The end result come out okay for this assignment, i really like the ideas and sketches i did but i dont think i did the drawings justice in the final image.
I will want to come back and rework this project over the summer to see if i can it to a good standard.

VD 2 Frogs !!

In today's session we were looking into the idea of anthropomorphic designs, so animals being pictured as humans.
As this can be done with any animal we were told to focus on frogs and see what we could create with them.

So started to create a mood board of different frogs, trying get as much variety in colour and shape I could get so I could make a group of different characters.

I decided I wanted a fat frog, a long and thin and then the classic shape so short body with folded long legs.

The fat frog I came up with the idea of an old Mafia boss frog who has been around seen it all and takes no shit from anyone.
The Skinny frog who is an obsessed with working out and running, this one is more of a scene with him sitting on a bench in the rain disappoint that he cant run.

The last one is a frog in the idea of a Gini which are normally depicted as humanoid.

Picking a final image to improve was far over the last two cause I liked how both were turning out but I went with the Gini one as the I liked how I could blend some of the colours to make this spectral look.

This I think is one of my best Photoshop drawings I have done yet ! I am really pleased with the shading and the toning looks good and keeps it shape when I remove the line drawing. I am really happy with this project !
