1st Person Game

My level is now finished !! After i long bitter sweet struggle with the coding which took my a lot longer than i thought it was going to.  However now it is all done i am very pleased with the out come of this game intro, the game play is simple but enjoyable and i cant wait to see what Ewan thinks of it and i am for once looking forward to the good things and problems with the project and how he thinks i should improve them.
This has been a stressful first hand in but i fun one also i am really excited for the next project in game design and all my 2D-3D work.

Merry Christmas Everyone (")(^.^)(").

Life Drawing

Some more examples of the life drawings which i have picked out.
There are some real improvement with my overall shape lines and shading which is clearly going to follow through with my Photoshop drawings and later assignments.
Something i do need to focus on in my life drawing tho is quick drawing and large scale drawings, i have a tendency to make my drawings quite small cause i drawing from the wrist but i should be able to extend my ability into larger scale drawings.

Life Drawing

Just to give some examples of my life drawing lessons, At first my i was fairly nervous about the idea of life drawing as i am not to confidant with my drawing ability however after the first lesson i really got in to the work, i really think it is improving my drawing ability overall and if i keep going to the sessions it will have a great improvement on me over time.
These are just some examples of my life drawing there are over 30 different pieces all together so i felt like grabbing a few which i like or show my progression.

VD Maya Building Assessment

These are the images of my final outcome for the Maya building assessment.
Comparing them to the reference image in my opinion it has come out really well the textures and overall match brilliantly with the image, i have also tried to recreate the way the scene is lighted on the building.
There is only one thing that i feel i could improve on in this project, and that is that i would want to add some more small details on to the doors, window frames and pillars just to make it look abit more ornate.

VD Maya Building Assessment

For our latest Maya project we we're told to design and model the example building (Building Below)
which was given to us. At first i was a little daunted by the task however once i started to get stuck into to the assignment it was a lot easier than i thought i was going to be.
The textures for the walls and roof tiles were also given to us which made it really shaved some time of the project so i could just get stuck right into the modeling rather than scouring the internet for the right colour and texture for the roof and walls.

VD Anatomy Assignment

After I had done all my basic researches and my starting sketches, i moved on to my final drawings which is three different angle drawings of the whole skeleton labeled with the names of the bones and their joints by what type of joints they are. Over all i feel that the drawings came out pretty well they are all in realistic proportions and match each other with their size and structure to show they are the same person. What i think i could do better in this assignment: i do feel i could have done better in this assignment if i went further with the three angle drawings maybe went in to a pen and extra shading one or even imported into Photoshop to make it crisp and sharp.

VD Anatomy Assignment

After i finished all the research i thought i needed on the matter so i could draw and label accurately, i went on to write a page on joints with their names and how they all work. The next two pages was me creating close up sketches of individual bones and sections of the body and then having them labeled with their names and the type of joints which join them if there was more than one bone in the drawing.
Doing these starting sketches defiantly helped me to get good understanding and grasp on how to draw these bones properly and to proportion.
The one bone i struggled with the most was the spine from the rear, i found it hard to get the perfectly symmetrical segments the same as well as staying in a straight line all the way down.  I am going to have to practice it a bit more for later reference.

VD Anatomy Assignment

For this assignment we were told to analyse and gain a basic understanding of the human bone structure, and how all the mechanics  (types of joints, how the move) of it works.

The assignment was split into two parts, one being us having to research and study the human skeleton, make sketches of separate bones and what kind of joints are used at that point.

I found this assignment really interesting i was searching the internet, library and my own books at home for all i could find on the subject.

1st Person Game

I have now loaded my Maya level into Unity and given everything colour plus lighting so that the level looks how it is going to while you play.
I really think i have gotten the mode light to a point where i like it, it has this moody orange colour which gives the whole place a sleepy feel which i want cause the main character is supposed to be tripping while he walks down the street.
Now all i need to do is fix the texture on one of the buildings as it has corrupted and starting adding in all of my code so you can actually play the game.

VD Body Proportions

During today's lesson we were learning about body proportions through the method of heads, so you can measures a persons body heads which ends up as a universal measurement so can be put on any creatures.
I had heard of this method before this lesson however had never fully put into to practice and being shown how it works properly i think this will be my way of scaling my drawings in the future.
my drawings themselves in this lesson were not great and i should go back and improve them to get a better idea of how it works.

VD Tank Design

This is my finished tank design it is a futuristic hover tank design which uses a massive rail gun as its weapon . i feel like the shading came out really well plus the shadowing under and around the tank are working well.
The tanks perspective came out really  well and works to its full effectiveness, one thing i would improve would be the scale of the tank, i should probably look at drawing a small human next to the tank to give a sense of scale.

VD Tank Design

We were told to design our own tank to practice the shading techniques that we had be learning in the lesson before.
I wanted to go for a very futuristic style of tank especially aiming for the idea of a hover tank mainly because i think it will look cool with the lights from the hovering energy mixed with the shading.
This assignment was really fun for me as i like drawing prospective drawings

VD 3 Tone Shading

In the lesson today we learn how to make a simple gradient scale from 0-100 from which we can take the shades and use them to create the illusion of 3d objects. What we also learnt is what range of shades you should be using in different lighting, so when in naturally lighting use light shades and the face point towards the light is always the brightest so in this drawing it would be the the top face, so if you set the lightest point as say 25 then you would go up by 10-15 shades for the next face and then the darkest side/shadow would be double the lightest point (50 in this case).
In the unnatural light the same rules apply for pretty much all cases and the doubling rule still apply's for example the bottom cube has its lightest face on the left as a gradient of 40 then darkest side is set at around 80 and the shadow at 85-90.
This will most certainly help me in future projects to make the lighting look better and cause of that give the whole drawing a more 3D image making it look as realistic as possible.

3D Fish Animations

After our lesson on animation our turrets in class we were told to go home and try and take a look into bones and deeper into the world of animation in Maya.
The bones are a lot easier than they first come off as, not only are they really important for realistic animation but also can be useful for making curved polygons and shapes.
I will have to try around with bones some more in the future I think they can be put to a much greater effect than was achieved in the fish animations.

3D Turret Animation

In today's lesson we took our turret models and ventured into the world of Maya animations, which was really fun to mess around with. What we animated was the turret spinning and the top sections of the turret move in and out of the barrel.
The Maya animation did confuse quite a bit while we were doing during the lesson and i didn't really understand the hierarchy part of it, but after Robins one to one with me it clicked for me and i am pleased with the way the animation came out lets of it can replicate it in another project to do with it.

VD Intsectiod final Design

I am really pleased with the way my insectiod character came out, i think all the colours contrast really well, the overall shape has come out well and all of the lighting from outside and inside sources look good and work well together.

VD Inesctiods

Our task this week was to take what we learn from our prospective lessons and design an insectiod character in a two point angle view.In this i am showing you my research which is then followed by me drawing varying insects and then designing insectiods. When i was doing this project i wanted to make something with a tribal idea as these creatures have been living in a society this whole time.During this project i had a lot of fun and i think the final results (should in next post) is actually one of my best Photoshop pieces which I am really happy about. I really feel i am learning the ways now and i defiantly feeling the benefits for it.

3D Texturing Gas Pump

Starting the textures for the i made all the pieces in Photoshop to make them as crisp as i could,
after that I doubled the gas pump i made before so i could have a contrast from the non-textured.
I feel like the texturing went well but could have gone a lot better, i think the main problem i have is I've got the UV mapping wrong its not quite match up properly cause i keep getting these white lines which tear across the texture, i am not quite sure how it fix this so i will have to show Robin in my next lecture.

3D Texturing Our Turret

VD Speed Painting

In today's lesson we were told to copy the a Photoshop paint as well as we could in 2 hours.
I really enjoyed this lesson i taught me how to concentrate on the important things in painting which you need to focus on.
I am a bit annoyed i didn't finish however i think i will go back and finish the drawing in the holidays so everyone can see the finished point but i will leave this post up to show how i did in the lesson.

1st Person Game

I have now finished my Maya model of my level, it started of as the first image where it had an open land of to the left and you could walk in between the houses, however that proved to be impractical and it function so well in game cause i didn't want to put a load of invisible walls everywhere limiting the players movement.
I feel the fully rendered image of the final level looks amazing and i am really proud with the way it has come out i cant wait to fiddle around with it in Unity so you can walk around my virtual world.

1st Person Game

Just before i start modeling my level in Maya for my project i wanted to take a look at how some other games and places in the world could inspire and give me some ideas on how to present the level.
After looking at all the references i had i feel i am going to base it on the style in which Brazilian slums are, and bring some gritty gangster style which Brink brings to the table.

Halloween Week Project

For our Halloween week we were told to design ourselves a creepy monster, there wasn't any notes that i needed to keep to other than it had to be scary, so this gave me a wide range for my ideas to span. What I ended up making was a creature/person who has been infect by a horrifying parasite.
I really like the way my monster has come out i feel he looks freaky and grotesque the different colours and textures through out this body give the image of this dying rotting body which no longer able to sustain itself. However as much as I like this drawing I feel it could have come out a lot better with some darker colours and also he's expression makes him look almost happy which is defiantly not the image I want to represent. But all of that said I would defiantly not wont to meet him down in a dark ally way.

3D Adding High Polly Features

VD Texture Map Deconstruction

In today's lesson inspired by Halloween coming up this weekend we started to look at how you layout texture maps in Photoshop for a character model, not only was this an eye opener for me on how the intraindustry makes these textures for characters but also it was a lot of fun changing this cute blond girl into Michael Jackson's thriller character.
All though i know it is a lot harder to make the texture map from start but i was surprised how easy it was to edit the map you could just change the colours of the layers, import images, and even just cut out and stick a new face on the girl.

1st Person Game

Moving forward in our Games Design project i have made the one sheet i did early into a more presentable fashion showing the main character and all the logos of the gangs.
Also i have i made i large scale version of Tate Jenson to do a character profile for him so people can get a understanding of this role in the game and his back story.
I think both these pages have come out really well, although the Jenson drawing needs some work to pretty him up a bit and be at a higher standard.

Prospective Drawing Task

In of latest task we were told to follow a tutorial video on YouTube where he teaches you the basics of prospective drawing and how you can improve your own drawings in the future.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCW9D2GytHo
This first drawing is the copy of the drawing he was making in the video so I could make sure I am doing everything correct and in the right prospective. I like the way it came out and the hole drawing is the right prospective and the adding of little bits of colour looks really good and adds to the overall pictures of the landscape

Now this drawing is my own one point perspective which is based on my game design project where the setting is in post apocalyptic slum in the background of a Utopian mega city.
However for the drawing the prospective has work out really well all the buildings have are in line and it has come just the way I pictured it to be the colour is complementing the drawing nicely.
Improvements I could make to the drawing would be to try and add some depth to the wall which blocks of the slums with maybe some basic texturing so it does not just look a large black square, also I feel like the houses in the slums could do with some features being added to them such as some doors, windows or varying roofs.

VD Weapon Project

What I think I could have done better in this project:
I feel the way I approached this project was maybe a bit to much out of context, I really like the way the gun came out and I think the shading/colouring has come out really well but it didn't match up to the brief as much as I originally thought so next time after I come up with an idea I like I will have to double check it to the assignment.

VD Weapon Design

For this project we were told to design a futuristic weapon which was bullet/projectile based so no electron or pulse based weapons. After looking at some examples from other artist's and pieces of art from books i feel like i am going to go for a launcher based weapon.
Something i got from the research is that mainly the guns are coloured in a lot of mat colours and not many complex patterns on the guns
.

3D Starting Mapping

Practising Silhouette

In the class today we learnt a new way of starting of the drawing project. The way you draw like this is you start on a new layer then using a soft brush with 100% opacity draw a simple outline of the person/creature you are drawing to get a simple starting point.
After you have finished this step you create another layer above the first then proceed to shade over the top with low opacity whites and greys to develop the shape and features of the creature, the finishing touches come when you start to make toning on the creatures ready for colour.
I really enjoyed this way of drawing and I am most likely going to use this technique in the later projects.
